I got this grill about a month ago and it is amazing. The first thing you notice is the high quality materials used to make it, it is solid as a rock. Once assembled, it is also a great looking grill to sit on the patio/deck. However, it's the grilling that is obviously most impressive. This grill can cook anything you ask it. With excellent temperature control, a temp gauge and plenty of grilling room, it makes it easier to get the right kind of texture out of everything you put on it. If you are looking for a quality charcoal grill that can actually last, don't make it hard on yourself. Well done, OKJ!

I am a "charcoal" man. I did the gas in my younger days. I moved to charcoal but the grill was thin and cheap. When it was time for a new grill I shopped until I found "The Judge". If you're a charcoal man OR woman, this is the one. The Judge is not thin but is "tight". It holds heat better then my current smoker. My kids will, someday, fight over who gets "The Judge".

I just bought this grill today and put it together myself with ease. I seasoned it as directed and can already tell this charcoal grill is built like no other grill that I've ever had. Heavy gauge steel, extra thick and heavy grill plates thoughtfully designed.

I had put a lot of time and effort into building a patio built in grill base and wanted to replace the cheap grill with a quality "forever" grill. I prefer charcoal over gas, but finding a good charcoal grill for a built in is not easy. I kept coming back and looking at the Judge, even though it is a stand alone model. I really like the look and features. I decided that I could make it work. Uppon arrival, the first thing that impressed me was just the weight of the box, this grill is built like a tank. I will admit, it was a bit unnerving to assemble a very nice grill like this and immediately make permanent modifications before even using it. I don't recommend doing this, and I think the manufacturer would agree. They say to measure twice and cut once, I think I measured 8-10 times at least. It was worth it. I have been cooking on it frequently all spring/summer. Making everything from ribs and whole chickens to burgers and dogs. It has fed as few as two people, and as many as 50. This is the best, most versatile charcoal grill I have used. The heavy duty construction holds heat and makes for consistant temperature control. Uses less charcoal because of the efficiency. I am certainly not suggesting that other customers make modifications like this, but maybe it would be worth it for Oklahoma Joe's to think about offering a built in version of the Judge. One last thought, I also bought the cover and just like the grill, it is very heavy duty and fits perfect.

I bought this grill a couple months ago. I've had an Oklahoma Joe's Smoker for close to 20 years and love it. This grill is a great charcoal and wood grill and exceeded my expectations. Everything I've cooked on has had exceptional flavor. I cook exclusively with oak charcoal and oak wood.

I could tell right away by the weight that this was meant for serious grilling and smoking. I wasn't disappointed. We first tried burgers and dogs. Then decided to see what the judge could really do. Ribs came out tender, juicy and smoky. This really holds the heat and is consistent. We'll worth the price.

I love cooking with charcoal, but only got to do it when visiting my parents. I've always had propane and this summer decided to make the switch. The Judge is incredible - so much grilling space, an adjustable fire box, solid cast iron grill grates. I love being able to setup zones with different temperatures too. I can't wait to experiment with some different smoking techniques. Highly recommend this grill if you're looking for the true charcoal grilling experience.

I bought the judge about a month ago and have used it almost every day. Best searing grill I've ever owned. Only disappointment is the way you have to raise or lower the fire box. Other makers use a screw mechanism with a L shaped handle in the front of the firebox thus not having to open the lid. The Judge in that aspect is 19th century technology rather than 21st century. Other than that I love it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great grill.

For years I've heard on the Oklahoma grills. Never thought about getting one. Ive always gotten regular grills from like walmart or home depot. Was at my buddies housewhen i seen his up close and personal. I took a harder look at the quality on how it was made and everything decide right then and there i wanted one. I purchased my Oklahoma Joe The Judge a month ago. It arrived within 10 days with free shipping. While unboxing I discovered that the firebox lid had been bent during shipping causing the lid to be off 1/2 an inch with the firebox. It appeared the smaller box containing the cast iron grates had probably slid during shipping and damaged the firebox. I contacted customer service and sent them pics of the damage. Within a day they shipped me a new firebox. Great customer service and they were very helpful and mindful of my issue. I received the new firebox in six days. Assembly was simple and everything matched up fine. I seasoned the grates and then did my first cook. I added some flavored wood chips to the charcoal and the food came out perfect. Clean up was simple and the removable ashtray worked great making cleaning easy. I highly recommend the Oklahoma Joe's The Judge BBQ grill/smoker.

I have been wanting a large charcoal grill for a long time. The only thing you can find now days is combo grills or small charcoal grills. I already own an Oklahoma Joe's upright barrel smoker. I've had the Judge for about 3 months now and bought it because I wanted a charcoal cooker with more available grate space than my beloved Bronco. By far the best feature of this grill is the height adjustable fuel bin. You can do low and slow cooking or raise it up for a fantastic sear. A lot of versatility for grilling. Unlike a lot of the commodity charcoal grills on the market at a lower price, even a few that offer adjustable height fuel bins, this unit is made from stout materials that should last many years and not flex and twist when moved. At 170 pounds it easily outweighs those comparable sized cheapies by double because of the strength of materials. The construction though is a bit slip shod as I had to repair a broken spot weld on the very bottom panel when unpacking and assembling. As I commented in the Q&A section the lower portion of the housing and around the exhaust stack the Judge leaks like a sieve. That's why I said it needs help for smoking. I consider temp control very important for longer smoke periods on larger pieces of meat that this is sized for. With all those leaks temp management is very difficult. I ended up using a high temperature, food grade rtv sealing material to close those gaps as well as a nomex gasket on the lid. Once those minor improvements were done it became a reliable smoker that allows temp control for longer smoking periods. Bottom line; it's good value once some minor fixes are done. Needing to do those fixes cost one star from my rating.

Grill is great but has minor flaws top smoke chute needs to be set in then welded instead of welded then installed because weld keeps a small gap between plate and lid and tac welds for bottom that hold ash tray need to be bigger. And it has a little damage on inside of lid but overall good grill.

I put it together the day i received it and seasoned it. I used it for the first time on Memorial Day, May 31, to cook hamburgers and hot dogs. It worked just as I expected. Temperature was easy to control. I have two problems with the bbq. It is really heavy, which is good but there are wheels only on one side. I wish it had casters on the side that doesn't have wheels. Also the grate tool hold the grates safely but at a very straight up angel which makes them difficult to move. A friend of mine saw my bbq and ordered one the same day

I bought this and during the third use the wield on one hinge on the lid broke loose. They are just tack wielded. The lid is to heavy for the lack of a sufficient wield on the hinges. Other than the inferior welding the grill cooks great.

It just arrived. It's sturdy. I really like the cast iron grates. BIG problem is one of the welds was broken on the lower clean out pan tray holder. It doesn't effect performance, but when you drop this kind of money it's sad to see that low of quality.

Overall Great Product. Well built except for weak legs. Plenty of room for roasting that turkey. Heavy duty grill grates are a plus. The only minus so far is it burns too much charcoal because the burn chamber vent is not tight enough for a slow burn

This grill is fantastic. It's very heavy, sturdy, and seems to hold temps very well. I'm currently "seasoning" my grill, and its holding a stead 300 degrees during this 2 hour process. The grill does leak a bit of smoke on the sides, however this is not a deal breaker for myself. I deducted one star because of that. My only gripe is the packaging. For a package weighing roughly 200lbs, the foam padding inside was abysmally fragile, as well as the box packaging itself. I'm extremely thankful that the shipping company kept the entire thing on the pallet, as the bottom of the box was completely shredded. Portions of the foam in the inside of the grill was damaged, which allowed some of the metal parts to knock into each other. There's a slight dent in the base/charcoal box of the grill from something that hit it, was well as a few nicks and scratches. I'd definitely recommend the grill to anyone, however I'd probably recommend them to buy it from Lowes, or another store that carries it, as Oklahoma Joe's return policy is abysmal.

Overall its a great smoker and grill but there are little things that require improvement like the the vent cover on the right side - its not sturdy enough and is bending with a little pressure.
